new york city DREAMING

Here is something that I did as an experiment.  Walking in New York city, I felt as if I was constantly walking into a crowd.  I was disoriented, and adrift from my family, since I was behind my lens.

I was in constant motion and tried to capture this with my camera….How did I DO?

nyc street PHOTOGRAPHY

Street photography is an interesting endeavor, and, New York City the perfect place to practice.  Usually I have my giant Canon 5d mark iii with me.  It’s big, clunky and heavy, not very stealth!  We were on the move, and I wanted to travel light.  I recently purchased a compact camera, and thought it would be great for capturing those quick uncomposed shots.  Here is my attempt at street photography.

All this pictures were taken with the Panasonic dmc-lx7,  shot on manual, jpgs mode and tweaked in camera raw.

As usual you can click on any image to see it full size.

weekly writing challenge:ICONIC

We are lucky enough to live a fairly close to one of my favorites cities, New York. It’s just a 3.5-4 hour car drive, provided there is no traffic!

If you have been following this blog, you know that the I have taken many pictures of my favorite ICONIC building. This really isn’t a writing blog, but I did write a blog about it in 2009.  Here is a link to it Blog entry.

By the way…I have been talking about the Chrysler Building!

twin LIBRARIES

I just was going over my New York City pictures from last month and noticed that the pictures I took at the New York Public Library have a lot of similarities to the Boston Public Library.

I suggest you click on the pictures to see them full size.

Do you agree?  I’d love to know what do you think?

nyc-gramercy PARK

No matter how many times a I goes to New York City, I always see something in a new way.

We stayed in the Gramercy Park neighborhood.  The Flatiron Building, Empire State Building and Chrysler Building are all in walking distance.

My daughter had an appointment and I waited for her on the closed sidewalk on Broadway and 22cnd.  On our walk back to the hotel we spotted a crowd in front of Union Square.  How lucky we were to Zac Efron (what a cutie) getting ready to shoot a scene for his new movie.

Here are some familiar pictures from a new perspective.

new york city AGAIN

This was a wonderful weekend to travel to New York City.  My husband and I had a wedding to go to on Saturday evening.  We arrived at out Hotel around 3:00pm, and we were told our room wasn’t available. (here is the back story on the hotel…We have stayed at the same hotel for the last 15 years.  It is on the East side in the 60’s on Park Avenue.  The location is in walking distance of everything…we were there last month and had really bad service.  I’m not one to complain, but they sent us a questionnaire, and I just told them what I experienced.  Needless to say, they offered us an upgrade to a one bedroom suite on our next stay…that just happened to be this weekend).  I of course immediately rolled my eyes, here we go again….I guess the front desk person looked at out record and went to get the manager…he immediately apologized and upgraded us to the Presidential Suite…this was going to be great. Our room was on the 18th floor, bedroom, dining room , office, kitchen, living room, and the piece de resistance…a balcony that wrapped around the whole place.  What a great start to our weekend.

We changed our clothes and made our way towards 66th street to find a wedding gift and visit a friend from home…Both missions accomplished, a vintage martini shaker for the bridge and groom (second marriage) and a quick tour of our friends digs.

The wedding was beautiful and understated, in an old private club, housed in an old brownstone. The night was over early and we opted to walk home…but, how could I, I had on high heels.  I told my husband, you should walk in my shoes.  He quickly pulled off his shoes and gave them to me, I put them on and we walked back to our hotel.  Me wearing his shoes in stocking feet, my shoes in hand.  Back to the hotel, almost safe and sound…Talking on the phone and negotiation curbs with bigs shoes on, resulted in a face plant and 2 scratched knees. A couple of band-aids and I was good to go.

Sunday morning, breakfast, MOMA, macaroons and a visit with my mother-in-law…what a great trip…Take a look a the pictures!
